FINAL LOCATION

Our final location for filming was on Ribblesdale Road.  This is because it is extremely near to school which meant that in free lessons or after school it would be easy for everyone to get to without much traveling at all.
Secondly, on the days that we wished to do filming, the house was free meaning that the actors could along without any anticipation or worry in disturbing others within the house.
Lastly, as our actors changed again to suit the needs of our filming timetable, the filming destination was inside their house; hence being a lot easier and comfortable for them.

The chosen filming destination was originally in Balham, being most suited/appropriate for our actors. Once changing the actors to a family well known by one of our filming members, we thought it would be best to use their house as all actors would be present and available.
The destination itself is about a five / ten minute walk from the station and bus stops which also meant that all four film members would be able to get there easily and have no access issues. However, when we actually came down to our filming, unfortunately, the actors had to change again.  This was not down to the actors but due to our filming timetable having to change.

ACTORS AND DECISIONS (GROUP TWO)

Due to convenience reasons and timing issues, we had to change our actors.  This meant we had to also re arrange the setting of our filming in order to officially suit the demands of the actors.

Carol Lyons (Playing the mother)
The actor we got to play the mother throughout our film in fact the mother of one of our group members.  This meant that we could get easy access to see when she is available and also meant that we would be able to do the filming in the house.  This was decided for both her comfort and availability.
Due to our actress being a family member of our editor, we thought it would be a better idea if we continued to use the rest of the family.  This meant that when choosing the au pair and young son, we also used family relatives.

Rhys Simms (Playing the child)
Playing the child is Rhys Simms, a pupil attending our school and the brother of our editor and the son of the actress playing the mother.
We decided to do this so that both actors would feel comfortable in acting around each other and the availability would be extremely close in terms of the both the characters.
Noticeably, all the actors playing roles within our film are related.  This is because it will be easy for all of them to communicate with one another. Secondly, the destination in which the filming will take place will be at their house so there will be no travel issues for the actors.

ACTORS AND DECISIONS (GROUP ONE)

When we first came to choosing actors, we had many options that we thought would work extremely well. As shown in the above presentation, the actor we had to play the mother was originally a famous actor named 'Camille Coduri'.
Unfortunately, after discussing times and dates with her, we realised that she already had filming plans made so we therefore had to change this particular character.
Secondly, when we wished to film the scenes with the little boy, the child (Aidan Sinckler) was unwell. This meant that we also had to change his character to a different actor. Luckily, we managed to get a replacement extremely easily so there were not many issues to worry about.
The actor playing the child minder was available to film when we needed but due to the other actors changing we felt we should change her due to convenience issues.
OVERALL
To conclude, it is clear that the exercise involving choosing actors was very successful and helpful as when we needed to change them, it was not difficult to find replacements. Another powerpoint was later created (GROUP TWO) which shows our final actors for 'The Visitor'.

COSTUME DESIGN

When choosing costume designs for our characters, there were many things that we had to take into consideration. Firstly, we had to decide whether we would follow discrete conventions, such a red clothing or make-up for the stereotypical 'baddie' or the victim.
When we spoke about these decisions, we thought that it was more important to address the main ideas and plot of the film within the two minutes we were creating. As our film length would be on average about 100 minutes, we believed that the conventions of make-up and clothing could be displayed throughout the remaining time. Due to this, our clothing was quite neutral in relation to the personalities of the characters.

FILM TITLING

OVERALL
Our group editor constructed the above powerpoint in order to understand more about titling positions and times. From this, as script writer i learnt an awful lot in where each actor and director along with production companies should be placed. From looking at these film titles, it is clear to now see how often and when actors names, directors names and production line companies are presented on screen. Usually, the name of the film or the most well-known actor appears on screen first allowing the audience to see who is starring in the movie. The speed of the titles also depends on the type of genre or type of thriller. For example, the titles in SE7VEN come up about every three seconds but they stay presented on screen for about four seconds. This contrasts to the titles of The Rear Window which are continuously displayed until 1minute 30seconds on screen

FINAL MUSIC PIECE - INSTRUMENTAL

FINAL DECISION
The final piece of music which we chose to be played throughout the majority of our film is titled: 'Bedtime Baby'
The music is extremely child-like in the sense that it is a traditional lullaby sound in which parents or minders would play to a child in order to get them to sleep. Furthermore, the instrumental sound is quite ethereal and mysterious which can be greatly compared to the thematic understanding of a thriller genre.
At the moment, the music chosen seems perfect to be added to our film as non-diagetic sound however when we come to editing 'The Visitor', if we feel that it does not fit the piece directly then we can always change this to create a more meaningful effect.

OPTIONAL MUSIC (LULLABY INSTRUMENTAL)

One of our optional pieces of music to have playing throughout our opening two minutes was as presented above. To create the effect of children going to sleep, we wanted to have a clear lullaby playing behind the scene. We also wanted this to have aspects of creepiness but not in a dominant way that the viewers would immediately become suspicious that something was going on.
The above music created a lullaby effect but we felt that it lacked any sign of ambiguity. Due to this, we continued to look for a more ideal sound.

TITLING PRACTICE - Created by Editor

When learning how to create appropriate titling for our film, our editor began to learn how to publish text onto secondary data (a simple advert which she found online).
By learning these techniques, it meant that for our final film she would be prepared to adapt to the final chosen font due to already having the experience.

FINAL SCRIPT

As having to previously write a script for our second treatment, I feel that it allowed me to improve my technique for this final adaptation.
The script consisted of mainly stage directions and camera angles as there is only one line of dialogue throughout the opening two minutes which we present on screen.
Furthermore, I continued to show script writing strategies from previously learning how to write scripts by involving words such as
- FADE IN
- EXT
- INT

To conclude, I believe that the script went extremely well and gave clear stage directions for the actors to follow.
Along with this, the camera angles and non diagetic sound labelled throughout the script would immediately help the editor when putting the final two minutes together.

FINAL TREATMENT - 'THE VISITOR'

FINAL
Our final film treatment only had to be changed due to minor interpretation errors. The content of the second adaption remained completely the same however we had to change simple character references.
This included changing:
- Babysitter to child minder / Au pair
- And Father to Mother as in our opening two minutes, the father is not presented on screen.
We had to change the babysitter to au pair so that it became clear that the child minder lived with the family. This had to be extremely understandable to the audience so that the main happenings that take place within the two minutes we film, seemed immediately relatable to the rest of the film.

THE VISITOR - SECOND ADAPTATION

Our second adaption to 'The Visitor' consisted of a more prominent story line where an au pair was after a family who were within the hands of witness protection. It is not until the audience realize that the child minder has a series of drawings and pictures that we begin to acknowledge that she is not who she claims to be.
We decided to completely get rid of the clown character that we originally had within 'The Visitor' due to not having depth and genuine purpose of him. Due to this, our plot synopsis did change, turning the conventional 'baddie' into the so-called babysitter.

SCRIPT ONE - THE VISITOR

As scriptwriter, this was the first script that I put together for our first version of 'The Visitor' involving a mental escapee from an institute. Within the two minutes which we present on screen, we wanted to convey and almost present clues and hints to the viewers to allow them to recognise (however very discretely) that a 'clown' figure would be present in the film. We wanted to show this through a series of shots which would expose a normal character, the child's mother, to have aspects such as red/ginger curly hair and red slippers which would be presented through a close-up. Moreover, to present the clown idea further and effectively elaborate on the busy lifestyle that the parents led, we then would have seen the mother figure applying lipstick but then due to her chaotic and busy work life which reflected on the child, hence hiring an inexperienced baby sitter, the lipstick would have smudged around the mother's face - creating a clown-like effect.
OVERALL:
As a first attempt in writing a script, I believe that it was very successful and this was partly the reason as to why as a group, we found it originally very difficult changing our idea to a more 'realistic' plot.
I also learnt how to adapt to the needs of script-writing, for example;
- Writing EXT (exterior) and INT (interior) depending on whether the scene was to be shot outside or inside
- And beginning the entire script with the words fade in.
Even though the process was long having to change the script and treatment on numerous occasions, I believe overall it really helped us to improve our techniques for our final piece.

SECOND TREATMENT - 'THE VISITOR'

From what we originally perceived to be a true story, 'The visitor' was our next film idea which finalised the characters within our film.
The plot of the film was based on a story which we believed happened in Germany many years ago in which an individual escaped from a mental institute. Within this, the story consisted of three consistent characters on screen but four main characters throughout the entire film. These characters were:
- A child minder
- A mother
- A child
- A father
A brief synopsis of the story went as followed:
Parents, who are extremely busy in their jobs leading a lavish middle-class lifestyle, had to hire an inexperienced babysitter who gradually began to see tweaks in the child's behaviour. This became noticeably more prominent when the child was left alone in his room. Furthermore, the child expressed to the babysitter that he did not like the toy that his mother had recently bought for him. When confronting the mother about her worries, the child minder came to the shocking reality that the mother did not buy the child a new toy, but in fact there was a real life person in his room who had escaped from a mental institute and was slowly tormenting the child in his room at night.
After constructing the script for the film, the idea was discussed with both of our teachers. Unfortunately, we had a huge issue in identifying the 'thriller' aspect in the film and therefore had to change the plot to a more official idea that the audience could thoroughly relate to.
As the characters and the idea of an 'inexperienced' and 'disruptive' figure coming into a family still suited the main ideology we wanted to convey, we kept the title 'The Visitor' but were prepared to make a few changes. At first it was extremely hard to get our heads around moving away from the above story, but eventually we discussed a brand new idea which led to many more twists within our film.

FIRST TREATMENT - 'SPLIT'

OVERALL
Our First Film Treatment was based on a psychological thriller which we titled 'Split'. The story line and content of the film seemed exciting to us at first, however when we discussed the general two minute interpretation with our teachers, they felt that the idea that was going to be perceived by the audience was a bit too 'cheesy' and did not have enough depth in it.
Due to this, we decided to completely change our idea from a split personality and turn into a more prominent idea with a disruptive figure coming into a family. This is when our film changed in title and was now named 'THE VISITOR'
